Benefits of good webdesign
Face it, the internet is in everybody's lives now. Over the past twenty years it has grown and grown and the current growth rate shows that it is still increasing. More and more people around the world are gaining access and the ways the net is accessed is also growing and changing. Several years ago the most popular way to access the net was via computer, either desktop or laptop. Now with smart phones and tablet pcs, the mobile net is fast catching up and before long will probably overtake the old ways of accessing the internet. With the growth in usage, the growth of web sites is also increasing at a rapid rate and so the benefits of good web design are of paramount importance in order to stand out from the crowd.
The benefits of good web design are obvious. In a world of high virtual competition, your site has to stand out, it has to catch the attention of the searcher. On average, you have around 5 seconds to capture the searcher and give him what he wants before he hits the back arrow key and finds his search criteria elsewhere.
- If a site looks good, it will catch the eye of the beholder. A tacky looking site is going to make the searcher hit the back button very quick as it does not come across as professionally. Lack of professionalism equals lack of credibility. Create a color scheme that's easy on the eye and compliments all the visual elements of the site, graphics, buttons, media, images etc and for text, always use black text on a white background.
- The design of the function of the web site has to be good. The page needs to load very quickly, a slow loading page will likely mean your potential client again hitting that back button, creating revenue.
- Wording. Remember you only have a few seconds to grab attention. You need a catchy title and your first sentence has to get your searcher reading and wanting to read more. This is critical and also often very hard to accomplish. But it is an essential ingredient of design.
- Ergonomics. How easy is your site to navigate? Is it user friendly? Is it laid out in a logical way where searchers can easily find their way through your site to where they need to be? All important ingredients of good web design. If it is user friendly, visitors will remember you. And not in agony.
- If all these four design elements are executed well, they should dovetail into one another and create a great experience for the searcher. Your content needs to be gripping, accurate and relevant and this will ensure your visitor returns again and again.
The benefits of good web design will set you apart from your competition. It will keep your potential clients on your site, it will lead them to action what you want them to action (eg fill in a form, leave their email address, make a purchase etc). Keep in mind the three basic elements of design (visual, functional and ergonomics) and apply them to your site and then you will reap what you have sewn.
